SHORT BIO
-
I am a Lecturer (equivalent in level to Assistant Professor in the USA) in Data Science & Environmental Analytics at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DEES), The University of Manchester (UoM), United Kingdom. I am also a member of the Department Leadership Team (DLT) of DEES, serving as the External Advisory Board and Employability Lead, as well as a member of the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (EDIA) Committee of DEES.
In addition, I am an Editor for Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP, a top journal in atmospheric sciences).
I am passionate about learning and solving practical problems using Data Science (DS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). My work focuses on computer simulation, modeling, and spatiotemporal analysis of (1) urban climate and environment, (2) air quality and aerosol properties, and (3) complex agriculture-environment nexus system.
In 2022, I was an Advanced Study Program (ASP) Postdoctoral Fellow at Computational & Information Systems Laboratory (CISL) and Climate & Global Dynamics Laboratory (CGD) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR, USA), collaborating with Dr. David John Gagne (Machine Learning), Dr. Keith Oleson (Urban Climate), and Dr. John Schreck (Data Science).
In 2021, I was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (USA), working on Earth and Environmental Data Science (funded by the Data Science Institute at Columbia University), under the supervision of Prof. Arlene M. Fiore (now at MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Prof. Daniel M. Westervelt jointly.
I received my Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Computational Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC, USA) in December 2020, under the supervision of Prof. Nicole Riemer and Prof. Lei Zhao. I also closely worked with Prof. Matthew West and Prof. Christopher Tessum.
During my Ph.D. studies, I was a Data Scientist Intern at Bayer for three years (January 2018 to December 2020), mainly working for The Climate Corporation; a Graduate Assistant at the Department of Computer Science (CS) at UIUC during academic year 2018–2019; and an ORISE Ph.D. Intern/Researcher at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) during Summer 2018, working with National Center for Computational Sciences - Advanced Data and Workflow Group.
I hold a Master of Computer Science degree and an M.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, both from UIUC. Further before, I received my B.Eng. in Biosystems Engineering (2015) from Zhejiang University (ZJU, China).
